Extend Partition in Vista

I have Vista Premium with a 150 Gb Hard Disc. This was part of a new Dell PC
already partitioned in the expected C:\ drive for the OS and D:\ for
recovery.

I wanted to add another partition and move all my files from the public
directory. However, on shrinking free space I was only able to create a
maximum 20 Gb partition so have not been able to move all of my public files
(I'm about 30 Gb short). Even though I have over 50 Gb free space remaining
on the C:\ drive I am unable to move this by using extend volume for the
newly created P:\ drive. The extend option is there but faded out.

Any ideas?

Vista's partitioning capabilities are limited. It will shrink a volume
until it gets to the first unmovable file (unmovable for Vista's partition
manager). For more flexibility use a 3rd party partitioning tool such as
Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 or BootIt NG. Do not use Partition Magic.

Make sure you have a full and complete backup before doing any partitioning
work. Of course this goes without saying, one should always have a full
backup.
