External USB Drive

WinXP Pro
USB Scanlogic box with Seagate 20 g Hard Drive

The Scanlogic USB device is detected in Device Manager with no problems.

The hard drive shows in Device Manager under disk drives with no problems.

The hard drive is formatted with data on it.

The hard drive does NOT show up in My Computer, Windows Explorer or Disk
Management.

It DOES show up on another computer with Win2k and the data shows.

I searched the ms knowledge base without success.

Any constructive suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

External USB Drive
Posted: 02-05-2004, 01:53 PM
Hello.

I setup an external USB drive as an extra storage area.
I changed the cable to one of the "Zip-Linq" retractable
cables, and the drive is not recognized. I tried re-
scanning hardware in device manager, and re-scanning
drives in drive management.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Windows XP Pro
Service Pack 1.
Pentium 4 3.2GHz
1GB RAM

Thanks

Since I have installed SP1, the USB drives seem to have
stopped functioning.Any solutions to this issue?

Thanks.

Does it begin functioning again if you put the old cable back on?
Do you know the the ZIP-Linq cable is USB-IF certified and has a little USB
logo/sticker to mean that the cable meets USB specifications?

Yes, It does function properly when I use the old cable.

I just found on Zip-Linq's website that their retractable
cables are rated USB 1.1 only. The old cable is USB
2.0. Maybe this is what makes the difference.

Thank you for your response.
