Indesign file re-open causes freeze/hang -but not on other Macs in the studio

Hi,

I'm running Leopard 10.5.6 and Indesign CS3 5.0.4, as are the other 4 Macs in our studio.

I created a document on my machine, saved it to the network and have now come to edit it again; the machine freezes every time now when I try to open the file.

The file opens perfectly on any of the other machines in the studio. I have tried resaving, copying/pasting content to a new document, saving as an Exchange format and nothing seems to work.

I've run Onyx system tools, cleanded the caches etc, even verified Hard disk and Permissions using Mac OS installer CD.

All other indesign files I have tried to open using my Mac are fine, open with no problems.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I can post the report Mac OS generates if that would help anyone.

PDF 1.6 exports black outlines around images.

Do you see these artifacts on the PDF as generated by InDesign, or only after it's been post-processed by your CMS? You description sounds like it's the latter which makes me think the "breaking up" process is the culprit.

OT: How do you set page size in MS Word? Center art?

Got MS Office update. Installed. Opened Word for first time. Default page size is 7 x 10. I look in page setup and it says US letter but the size is off on-screen. Or maybe it is 8.5 x 11 and I can't make sense of the rulers. My bigger problem is the logo will not center in any format (jpg or png). Uploaded a screen shot.

There's another way.

Turn off the Strokes. Then use the spacing with 0 points. Then turn the strokes back on.

Make one with a uniquely distinctive name then use Spotlight to find it in your file system.

I think they took it out. Search for "CS4 Bridge".

You can't open the application "Adobe Indesign CS4" because it is notsupported on this architecture.

Hello,

I am getting the same message?

Installing a downloaded version on a brand new IMAC; intel core 2 Duo
2.66Hz - 500GB disk - 4GB Ram
All other installed Adobe Creative Suite 4 applications run just fine.
I tried to reinstall just Indesign and it actually does re-install it.
(so it's not there?)
But still the same message when opening?

Any suggestions?

hyphenations

Did you think of reading the Help on hyphenation? (Select Help, type "hyphenation".) Apparently not; the relevant parts are:

The settings you choose for hyphenation and justification affect the horizontal
spacing of lines and the aesthetic appeal of type on your pages. Hyphenation
options determine whether words can be hyphenated and, if they can, which
breaks are allowable.

and

To turn automatic hyphenation on or off for a paragraph, in the Paragraph
panel or Control panel, select or deselect the Hyphenation option. (You
can also include this option in a paragraph style.)

What for settings do you have on the importoptions when bringing in Word? Keep formatting or loose formatting? And if loose formatting: is Keep local formatting on or off?
