>
>The problem lies with Shrink Volume. Even though I have 60GB free it's only
>offering me the chance to shrink by 14GB.I've turned off system restore and
>Does anyone know how I can get Shrink volume to recognise the big chunk of

This is almost always a driver:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This is almost always a driver:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed
when the IRQL is too high. The error that generates this bug check usually
occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or
BIOS. If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of
Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a
virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
A driver tried to access an address that is pageable (or that is completely
invalid) while the IRQL was too high.
This bug check is usually caused by drivers that have used improper
addresses.
If the first parameter has the same value as the fourth parameter, and the
third parameter indicates an execute operation, this bug check was likely
caused by a driver that was trying to execute code when the code itself was
paged out. Possible causes for the page fault include the following:
The function was marked as pageable and was running at an elevated IRQL
(which includes obtaining a lock).
The function call was made to a function in another driver, and that
driver was unloaded.
The function was called by using a function pointer that was an invalid
pointer.

But here are a couple of items noticed in your write-up:
Current BIOS is revision F5, 11/6/2008 (You are two behind. Not recommended
unless you're having hardware problems which you are.)

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2889
This motherboard has dualBIOS. Not sure how that works, but if it means
there are actually two BIOS chips, are they setup the same?
Is Easy Energy Saver enabled? It needs to be the latest revision: ET6

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2889
In the BIOS, set Init Display to Onboard VGA instead of PCI (Default.)
Is the keyboard or mouse a USB device?
Is the BIOS set to enabled for the keyboard or mouse if a USB device?
Is the onboard LAN disabled in BIOS?
Is HPET Mode set correctly for the OS installed?
Disable any overclocking features.
Disable onboard audio to verify audio driver is not conflicting.
Make sure you have the motherboard drivers loaded for the OS installed:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2889
I will assume you mean the Celeron D 3.06GHz with 533 FSB support.
Is the memory rated for 533, 667 or 800? Multiple sticks? All the same?

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/...-g31m-es2l.pdf

Please refer to responses you recieved in the .general group.

In the future, please don't post the same message separately to multiple
groups (multi-post). Instead, cross-post to relevant groups by including all
groups in the address line. When you multi-post, you create separate threads
of the same subject in different groups, and those accessing the groups see
each one as a new message and separate thread. Those trying to help may
repeat what's already been told, and some (like me) may read and reread the
same issue multiple times. When you cross-post, you create a single thread
where all responses can be seen in all groups that were originally
addressed, thus creating less work as others can see what's already been
suggested elsewhere.
>I am going to buy a new laptop and for the most part, especially the ones I
>Now my laptop purchase isn't meant to replace my desktop machines at all,
>but I am purchasing it because I am going back to school and because from
>time to time, it would be nice to do some things like messing with my music
>library and pictures from the comfort of my couch. Anyhow, on the the
>'concerns'. With the 64bit being pretty much my option for my new laptop, I
>have some concerns on software that I will want to use and install. Some I
>know won't have an issue like Adobe CS4 and whatnot, but other items, I am
>wondering how they will fare? Being that I have never used Vista for
>anything production wise, I have not familiarized myself with what it can
>and cannot do. Being that most programs out there are 32bit, what is one to
>do with this 64bit operating system for as I understand, it doesn't have
>backward compatability from 64 to 32. I believe this was for software and
>hardware. Am I wrong? Am I stressing over this when in fact I should have
>no issues whatsoever? My initial thoughts were to just downgrade the laptop
>to XP Pro, but with laptops these days, it ain't as simple as it sounds
>since you have to find "ALL" the drivers and what not if you want any of
>the original functionality of the laptop. I know my way around computers
>pretty good and plan on picking up this laptop tomorrow I hope. Going for
>the HP dv7-1245dx from Best Buy. Anyhow, sorry for the long read and if
>some of you could please take the time to ease my fears of issues with
>someware, especially older stuff and it's functionality, I would much
>appreciate it. Thanks for the assistance!
When i try to copy a file >300MB from one location say Local Disk:D
to Local Disk:E the computer freezes.

So as to tackle the problem i tried to analyze the disk writing
characteristic by looking at resource monitor.
i have Windows vista OS. during the transfer it transfers certain
amount of data then the orange light indicating the harddisk level in
the CPU stop to blink ie it remains glowing. then the computer doesnt
respond.

the page.sys located in the Local Disk:C shows the high characteristic
of writing during transfer before freezing.

please save me from reinstalling the vista....
>> > One is for slow startup, and it gives me three programs that are doing
>> > I went to find the programs and get them to stop loading "#2 and #3)
>> > but
>> > they still load up. How do I stop them from loading on startup?
>> >
>> > Also on the other issue for visual settings. I tried to goto basic
>> > vista
>> > display but still get this Performance issue coming up in the Advanced
Hello, I have read at least 20 articles about random shutdowna but
cant seem to find the right solution. I am running Vista 64 (Ultimate
on a toshiba laptop and i can do anything on the computer with n
problem, play games, run multiple apps, the only time i get the proble
is when i let it idle. I recently upgraded from 32 bit (as in like
days ago) and it never had this problem. I have disabled all powe
management options so that it should stay on when i close the lid. i
will run idle for anywhere from 1-30 minutes or so. then without warnin
the power turns off, it doesnt go through shutdown b/c everytime i tur
it back on it gives me the windows was shutdown improperly screen. It i
not a power supply problem, and it is not overheating, and i am runnin
SP1.

What follows is the log from the event viewer and all logs at the tim
of shutoff have an error code of 200 followed by varying program
running at the timem and all 200 codes are followed shortly by 10
codes. The same thing happens in safe mode

Hi! I'm new to this forum and I'm currently having some problems with m
system

I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron 1521. I've grown sick o
Hibernation mode (my computer would take seven minutes to come out o
hibernate), and I looked online for a solution. I found a website tha
advised me to enter command prompt as administrator and type powercfg -
off. I did so. Now whenever I close the lid and open it later, one o
two things happen

Either the computer immediately goes back to how it was, as if it cam
out of sleep/standby mode

Or, the computer goes to a black and white screen informing me that th
computer has suffered an unexpected shutdown. I am then offered th
option to start it in normal mode of in safe mode

I've tried going back into command prompt and entering powercfg -H o
to no avail. I've tried fiddling with the power options and specifyin
what happens when the lid is closed. Nothing

I keep losing work because of this. If anyone has any ideas o
suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
