I only can use slots 0 and 1 of the card for hw, hardware connected to
2 and 3 is not recognized.
If I try to plug optical mouse to slot 2 or 3, it's no lighting, but
if I plug my USB external battery it starts charging instantly)

This shows in properties of failed device:

Universal Serial Bus controllers
PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 0, device 8, function 1)
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.



What's the problem and how can I resolve?

My laptop was working perfectly fine till day before yesterday
Yesterday monring when i tried to switch on machine, i got the erro
message "Windows could not start because the following file is missiin
or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys... ".

I went through past threads on this forum and hence try to start b
pressing F8 key and then selecting Safe mode with Networking. Then i
asked to selecting operating system. there was only one option "Windo
XP Media Center Edition". upon selecting that, i got the same erro
message..."windows could not.... ". Could anybody quickly help me as
am in great hurry and right now i am out of country

I'm writing a virtual SmartCard Reader driver for WinXP, the goal is
to pass APDU's through two interfaces : PC/SC <-> SerialPort(COM)

I've read a lot before posting, but i got all confused:

Firstly, a little confused about writing in WDM or WDF and the type of
driver (Function or Filter driver), in the end i chose writing in WDF
(KMDF) and a Function Driver, correct me if i got it wrong.

Secondly, from the WDK documentation/books i understood that i need to
write some kind of DEVICE_EXTENSION structure that is needed for WDF
Framework, AND some kind READER_EXTENSION structure that is used by
SMARTCARD_EXTENSION (typically for the SmartCard driver).
Problem is that i don't know how to write these.. didn't find any
rules and i don't know what is needed for everything to work.

Thirdly, my driver shows in Device Manager list but DOES NOT show in
available readers list in the applications, i've read that the driver
must register with "smclib" but i don't know what lines I need to
write to make it happen. (How to make the reader visible in the
applications that support PS/SC readers?)

Example code in WDK dosen't help any more, so i came here.
Any kind of help is welcome, thanks in advance

I plug in the value in fdoData->pNPPhysicalMemory variable to the PCI
Device BAR. But somehow inbound mapping still don't seem to work.

One of the question is, is MmGetPhysicalAddress really returning a
physical address of the memory that can be used with PCI devices. I see
that in places in MSDN, not to use the physical address returned by
MmGetPhysicalAddress for DMA. Even though I am not using DMA, does this
statement still apply to my design?

Below is what I get from windbg for the pool, which says 0x10000 is my
physical address for the non-paged pool.

Windbg Output:

uninstall all the drives except for the C: drive. I uninstalled both DVD
drives and all the indivdual card reader drives. I did not uninstall any of
the controllers just the drives. Then I shut the computer OFF not just
restart. After I turned the computer back on, it automatically discovered
all the drives and apparently updated the registry with the correct
information. No more Exception Processing Messages!
