fading audio at end of track

i tried papajohn's fading out procedure by adding a muted mp3 file and insert
it to the end of my audio clip, but it doesnt work for me, the original audio
just keeps playing like nothing was added, what am i doing wrong?

Can someone give me a step by step example of what to do, thanx
