Failed installation

Posted: 06-19-2006, 08:20 AM
I have IBM X40 Laptop with additional External USB disk running winxp SP2
with IE7 beta 2.
I have tried to install vista beta 2 on the external disk and the following
happens:
1. Installation fail - When trying to boot the vista you get:
\windows\system32\winload.exe 0xc000000e
2. When you try to rollback installation you get error saying rollback
failed. A second attempt to rollback open command prompt in
x:\windows\system32 and nothing happens.
3. In my old winxp IE7 dispaly empty pages , uninstalling IE7 did not did
not change the situation.

You cannot install Vista onto an external USB connected hard drive. It will
not boot from an external USB connected hard drive.

If you get Vista to work from USB HDD please let us know how :-)

So far I've only heard that it is not possible. If it did work it would
likely be very very slow.

I have tried to install Beta 2 from the DVD I received in the mail three
times. It always hangs up on a black screen that has the name of the build in
the right corner but nothing else. What am I doing wrong?

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260. It has a Pentium 4 processor running at 3.06Ghz
and 512M of RAM. The hard drive is 75G. As for peripherals, I have a cordless
mouse, USB keyboard, USB printer and USB DVD/CD Writer.

Windows Vista hangs on the black screen (after the final install) which says
Windows Vista Beta in the lower right hand corner. I just tried it again
today.
