Fax Service & US Robotics Sportster 33.6 Ext Modem

Posted: 10-12-2005, 10:08 PM
I recently installed a US Robotics external Sportster 33.6 Faxmodem due to
the phone company changing my phone line from analog to digital. The new
digital line fried my old PCI 56K modem. However my Fax Service will not work
now.

The modem is installed and working and when I use the BVRP PhoneTools fax
program that came with the modem I can send and receive faxes.

However most of my contacts are stored in Fax Services. When trying to send
a fax through Fax Services I get the message "There was no answer." and when
trying to receive a fax "There was an error receiving this fax". That is the
extent of it. I have searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base for answers but
found none.

Any help would be appreciated.

Something doesn't fit here.
Fax can only use analog phone lines, no matter which program you're using.
Clarify your post.

That could be the answer to my dilemma. If Fax Service can only use analog
phone lines and my phone lines have been upgraded to digital would that
explain why PhoneTools will work with the modem and Fax Service will not? All
I can tell you on the analog/digital is that my phone company upgraded my
phone lines to what they called digital lines to allow for better DSL
internet service.

As I said, something is inconsistent in your statement. No fax program could
work with a digital line. You need to determine more accurately what your
phone company did. Did they perhaps install a DSL line filter suitable for
connecting a standard analog voice line to the DSL line?

I think that this is similar to the in-house phone system in office
buildings. You cannot connect an analog modem without an adapter to
reduce the voltage and the frequency of the signal. I do not think
that the external modem is long for this world either because it has
the same limitations as the internal modem.

The telephone company was here this morning and installed the DSL filter per
my request. Windows XP Fax is still not working.

Is there a way to manually and totally remove ALL files that are installed
when Fax services is added and then do a totally clean install of the fax
service from the WinXP disk?

Is Your previous analog line changed to ISDN?
If is then you must change modem card for ISDN and you can fax again.

I have VDSL on ISDN line and I can use ISDN modem for customers that not
have Internet but they have fone line.
Ask your company for sollution because who has ADSL and put filter on line
that can use fax modem analog or digital (ISDN).
