Windows XP Fax can or cannot send faxes internally? When I bought my system
the tech said it was possible. I have dsl connection and my printer does not
have a phone connection.

Windows XP is a bit flakey when it comes to fax support.
Beyond that, A DSL phone line, assuming you also have phone service
associated with the line,
requires a filter between the DSL line and the fax modem or machine. You
should also know that some DSL & "digital phone" providers
block or charge extra for fax service. (Just another way to make money)

When you installed your DSL service, you should have received filters
for all of the regular telephone devices in your home. All of these
devices (not just the ones that use the same wall outlet as your DSL
connection) need to have a filter.

If your computer has a fax modem, then -- if it is a model that XP likes
-- you can send and receive faxes "internally." You must connect the
modem to the phone line through a filter, just like the other telephone
devices. You can buy a "splitter" that plugs into the wall outlet, and
then connect one of the splitter's jacks to your DSL modem and the
other, through a filter, to your fax modem.

To check to see if you have a fax modem, press WinKey+Pause/Break (or
right-click on "My Computer" and select properties), click "Hardware"
and then click "Device Manager." Click the plus sign next to the entry
"Modems." The make and model of any installed modem will be displayed.

MVP Bruce Sanderson has a very useful FAX FAQ at

See #1: How do I install the Windows XP Fax Service?

If you have problems, see other entries, especially #12.
