FDISK - where in XP?

Posted: 10-26-2003, 09:58 PM
I keep seeing references to ":fdisk" in writeups specific to XP,
but I can't find that on my WinXP Pro system. I can find
"format" and "convert", but no "fdisk". Is "fdisk" really still
a part of WinXP, or has its function been taken over by
"diskmgmt.msc"?

There is no "fdisk" in Windows XP (or earlier versions of NT based OS for
that matter)

You can use Disk Management as you listed below, or you can use diskpart
from the command line.

Greetings --

FDisk is an old MS-DOS utility that is not available in WinXP.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

I am not installing WinXP. I have a running WinXP which
I'm attempting to use to copy its image to another HD.
