Thanks for the guidance.

This feature in OE is really wonderful.I did not know this till I read
your reply. Is it possible to send the file using a web-mail instead of
an email client like OE? This -breaking and sending - is not perhaps
possible in a web- mail service. If so is there any other alternative to
send a huge film strip?

It would depend on the providor. I've not heard of this but I don't use web mail.

The normal solution is to install IIS (Pro only not Home) and use FTP. You could establish a VPN (type it in Help) with your friend and just drag it to his computer. You could talk to him/her on Windows or MSN Messenger and send the file that way. You can use Netmeeting to do the same.

Thanks again for the information/guidance.

I shall try to update the os home to Pro in a month or so and then
proceed as suggested. Establishing a VPN also shall be tried after I
switch to Pro.

In the mean while I feel I should break the file in parts of 700-768KB
and send the files across and tell the recipient using webmail to use
the attached batch file to combine it. I am trying to find a free and
yet a good program for breaking the file so that the receipient has no
problems. Long before I have used some such program (do not remember
now) but then I lost the interest as the receipient would complain that
the batch file did not combine the files.

If you suggest any such good program I would be highly thankful for such
an information.

Do a web search. They generally have names like splice.

Only an FTP server requires Pro. All other options work on most MS OSs. I would not buy pro for the FTP server. A web search will show plenty of free FTP servers. Also in the current security climate they are no longer simple to use.

Email was not designed to send files (ftp was).

Hi David,
Your guidance has been eyeopener to me. Finally downloaded ftp server
Guild FTPd version 0.999.13( a free ware)
(http://www.guildftpd.com/index.php).
After setting the server all went Ok. Now I could inform the other party
to download any free ftp client (I have WS_FTP LE) to download the movie
strip from my ftp server. I had a chronic problem in sending large files
and for the time being I would remain contended with this arrangement. I
will also have to study the security issues of the software.

XP comes with two FTP clients. Internet explorer

ftp://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn/mymovie.avi

Or a command prompt FTP (ftp.exe)

I would turn it off if not being used at that moment in time and remember to reenable your firewall.

One more point I would like to mention here that I forgot to write in my
previous replies is that I also tried to do what you said earlier-----

"Outlook Express will break large emails up. In the Account properties
the size is set. The reciever selects all mail (which will be 1/4. 2/4,
3/4, and 4/4) then on the Message menu chooses Combine And Decode."

I sent the zip file (2.97MB) to myself and OE while sending seemed broke
it in 7 parts. OE was configured by me to break apart files larger than
600KB.This is the reply that I received from my IP:-

A virus was found in an Email message you sent.
This Email scanner intercepted it and stopped the entire message
reaching its destination.
The virus was reported to be:

Security makes doing simple things harder and harder. I use Windows messenger to transfer files.
