| Hi, This can be easily accomplished by TweakUI. Under TweakUI, go to the My Computer>Autoplay>Handlers section and delete the ones not required anymore. You can also create new ones from there. Download TweakUI from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp -- Anando Microsoft-MVP for Windows XP Know more about the MVP program- http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Indian MVPs- http://www.microsoft.com/india/mvp/indiamvp.aspx "mp" <mparent@safeaccess> wrote in message news:009f01c36474$8a8c72b0$a001280a@phx.gbl... | 1. Choose Start | Control Panel, click Appearance And Themes, and run Folder Options. You see the Folder Options dialog box. (You can also display this dialog box by choosing Tools | Folder Options from any Explorer window.) 2. Click the File Types tab. 3. In the Registered File Types list, click the type of file you want to to delete. "Brian B" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:01bb01c3aae8$417d9670$a401280a@phx.gbl... Quote:

| Anyone know how to tell XP Pro not to open multiple instances of an associated program when double clicking on a file in explorer? I've associated ".cpp" with Visual Studio, and XP opens a new instance of Visual Studio every time I double click on a "cpp" file in explorer. Under Windows NT you simply set the "DDE" message for the application, but I can't find this option in XP Thanks in advance for your help | Guest

| I have several program files that are not associated with the programs I wish them to be, but their icons don't show up in the list, and when I manually assign the program extensions to the actual program executable they STILL don't show up in the list, and they STILL are associated with another program. I can't 'unlock' them from being associated with either incorrect or NO program whatsoever. How do I unlock the file extension and reassign it? I've used the methods you describe, but they won't unlock. THanks, Greg ***** Quote:

| Hi Greg, What exactly are you trying to do? Let me see if I can duplicate it here. -- All the Best, Kelly MS-MVP Win98/XP [AE-Windows® XP] Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com Utilities for Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_u.htm#xp_util "Ghurley" <ghurley@cox.net> wrote in message news:40194CF5.8030201@cox.net... | I'm only having problems with one particular CAD application. I right-click the .brd, or .dra, or .pad file extensions and manually go to the application's .exe file, but the association doesn't 'stick'. The applications don't show up on the list either, so I can't do it from the 'open with...' approach either. Isn't there a registry setting somewhere? I DID find one partial fix on either Kelly's website, or one of the links to the XP experts' site, or whatever, but it only opens the raw application, but not the actual file I'm trying to open. Sorta tricky to explain, but I hope you got it. Greg ***** Kelly wrote: Quote:
