File backup

Once upon a time, I could back up individual files by
date (using xcopy). I'd like to do this with a CD burner
under Windows XP. As I have data files in different
places, this is difficult to do manually. I've tried to
use xcopy in the fake DOS prompt to copy new files to a
temporary directory. It doesn't work. Any suggestions?

xcopy works fine for me copying to a staging folder (not
writing directly to the CD).

Can you post the exact line you're using and the exact
result or error you get?
