File Permission Issue with files on networked computer

I have a Wintel XP box networked with my Powerbook. The PC
has access to files on the Mac and vice versa. When I am
working on the PC and make changes to a file located on the
Mac, the file's ownership changes from the Mac to the PC.
Is there any way to prevent the ownership change?
