File Sharing inside my home network?

Hi All,

I have tones of digital Video/Music stored in my hard drives at home
and want to make them accessible through out my house. I put together
a Vista (Ultimate) box in basement and mirrored hards and have all my
digital files (mpeg2,3,4,..) there.
Now I would like to access all those files from other computers (all
vista) at home (one is connected already to my home theater. I've
search and can't find an easy way to do it. Possible options:

1- Public directory: not much access control. has to be on Main Hard
Disk (I have 4 hards on that machine)
2- Media Sharing: Only supports Windows supported formats (e.g. no
Divx)
3- Folder Sharing: That seems like the only option. But what it seems
I will end up is to share the Whole hard drives to my network. This
volume sharing seems scary and also if someone hacks to my network, he/
she will have access to all data.

All I am looking for is those hard drives to be fully accessible to my
Internal (Intranet) network (even without password).
Also everything be isolated so no one can get to my Intranet from
outside.

Any solution comes to your mind?

Thanks in advance, Homer

I thought is was easy to "sync" files if both computers run Vista, or is it
that you don't want the same files stored on all computers.
You can get your machines to "see" the main drive ( it does not need to be
Public ime) and give it a drive letter by using "Map Network Drives" then
you should be able to choose which files to open from your main machine on
whichever machine by simply going to My Computer and opening the main drive.

Have a browse through the above; see if that helps you.
