File size and duration discrepancy.

Ostensibly, one can make a music CD that contains 20+
hours of music, if the music files are recorded in a low
bit rate, WMA format. I purchased a SonicBlue Rio Volt
player with the intention of making discs that could hold
conpilations of jazz, rock or whatever else I have in my
library. However, when I attempt to record a music Cd,
using either the Windows Media Player or Roxio CD Creator
5, I find that I cannot get the expected number of songs
on a 700 MB CD. I cannot even come close. Both programs
appear to be basing the number of files that I can copy to
the disc upon the reported playback durations.

This brings me back to my original statement. If one can
make a WMA music CD that is over 20 hours, it must be due
to the fact that you can get more data on a disc because
the file sizes are smaller for WMA encoded tracks. Why is
it that I can not seem to fit the tracks from a playlist
that contains 625-675 MB's of data onto a blank 700 MB CD?

Thanks-In-Advance,
Mark

You need to create a "Data disc", not an audio disc. Why don't you use the
software that are with your burner? Better yet, try Nero 6.

I thought about making a Data disc, but I was unsure if my
Rio Volt player will be able to read a Data disc. I will
try it. As for Nero, I had a copy of it once before, but
I am not sure it worked any better for me. Of course,
that was back when I had that useless piece of crap from
HP for a burner. I paid $300 for it and got about $5
worth of use out of it. I am much happier with my
Plextor. It seems to work pretty well with both Easy CD
Creator 5 and with the Windows Media Player. In what way
do you feel that Nero is better?

It's not cheesy? ;-) Seriously, Nero has always been for power users, but it
now more suited towards the average Joe. I actually bought Cheesy CD Creator 4.
It was so damned buggy I couldn't even use it. It let me rip audio at 0.9x!
Yes, SLOWER than real-time. WTF? My friend had version 5.0. I tried to burn a
CD using it, and it took like 25 minutes on a 12x TDK VeloCD. Again, WTF?
