Default file transfer between msn messenger and windows messenger

I have windows messenger and xp. My sister has msn
messenger and win 98 (97?) I can send files to her and she
can recieve them, but she cannot send to me. She can send
to other people. Any ideas? My son has xp and windows
messenger and we can send to each other.

Default Re: file transfer between msn messenger and windows messenger

Greetings,

MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger file transfer are fully compatible. However, the reason
why she can send to others is that MSN Messenger 6.x supports sending files through the
Messenger server, whereas Windows Messenger does not. As such, she either must have a
router, firewall or some other "internet sharing" type solution which is blocking you from
connecting to her (and downloading the file). If you were to use MSN Messenger 6.x instead,
it would simply send the file through the Messenger server, but since you're using Windows
Messenger, it fails.

In order for her to send files to you, her router must either support Universal Plug and Play
(UPnP) or the applicable rights to access the Internet must be set in any type of software
firewall she presently has installed. Since this is her PC, and obviously you don't know the
details, the simplest solution would simply be to install MSN Messenger 6.x:

or simply send the files through other means.
