File Transfer to Vista

Posted: 05-06-2007, 02:04 PM
I just purchased a PC with Vista yesterday, booted my XP PC this morning and
got the blue screen (talk about bad timing). Spent two hours with Dell and
could not get it back up and running. Can the files on the old computer be
transferred to the new computer without the old one powered up?

You would need to remove the hard drive and install it in a USB enclosure or
the Vista computer.

I've replaced a disc drive without too much difficulty - how does replacing a
hard drive compare? About the same? Harder?

Replacing a Hard Disk Drive is about the same effort as replacing an Optical
(CD or DVD) Disk Drive.

It is about the same. If their are two drives on the same cable one has to
be set as master and one as slave. The drives usually have the information
for the jumper settings on them.
