Default File type icons

In XP I was able to change the icon the system would use for a file type.

I have installed a text editor and would like to use it's icon. But Vista
keeps using the ugly notepad icon.
Can this icon be changed in Vista?

Using Windows Explorer, find the file you want to edit and right-click on it
and select Open With-->Choose Default Program. You should be able to select
your text editor there.

I can get the new text editor to be the default program, but it uses the
notepad icon still.
In XP I was able to associat other icons with file types such as .txt.
Can this not be done in Vista?

I think it works the same as in XP. Right-click the program's shortcut icon
and choose Properties. On the Shortcut tab of the Properties sheet click
Change Icon.

I can't speak to the actual icon for the text editor. That has nothing to do
with Vista and how that works is up to whoever created that text editor.
