Finnish XP --> Vista RC1

Posted: 09-24-2006, 06:42 PM
I am using finnish version XP so upgrade is not possible.

If I am using same disk & partition where XP is then Vista creates
windows.old things.... No problem about that... and I am sure that I have to
"re"install every software I am using now in XP...??

However my question is what changes Vista do to my directories & files?

F.e. I have documents & setting directories and I am afraid that Vista is
cleaning all during the installation.... because there is all my pictures &
outlook posts and so on....

Could somebody tell me what exactly happening when I am doing fresh install
to the same disk & partition where finnish version XP is locating... And what
are things I have to do to take care that anything important is not missing...

Thx in advance...

Pasi

From your post I read that you are not really experienced with OS
install process (I could be wrong, so sorry).

I wouldn't try to upgrade Win XP FI to Win Vista US. There's bound to be
complications. So don't do it and wait for Microsoft to release Finnish
Vista.

If you're still doing it couple of things.
Backup, backup backup.
Buy another hard drive and install Vista there (=leave your XP install
intact). This is highly recommended.

To answer your questions.
You will be missing: intalled programs. Settings.
Your documents, mails and bookmarks are safe, but you need to dig them
from disk.

Finally: Don't do it. Please.
