FireWire card makes Win XP stand by & hibernate 'hang'

Posted: 04-03-2004, 10:16 AM
I have just fitted a Pinnacle firewire IEEE 1394 card. It is recognised by XP and appears to work perfectly with the Pinnacle Studio 9 software and in all other respects my computer seems to be working normally. HOWEVER, whenever I try to put the computer in 'stand by' or 'hibernate' (which i do frequently) Windows XP hangs on the screen "Windows is preparing for Stand by........" or "Windows is preparing for Hibernate........."

I have tried uninstalling the Pinnacle Studio 9 software BUT no change
I have tried a replacement firewire card (same type) BUT no change
I have tried moving the firewire card to a different slot BUT no change

The only way I can cure the problem is to REMOVE the firewire card altogether. Then Win XP will 'stand by' or 'hibernate' normally. But as soon as I reinstall the firewire card in any of the available slots the problem recurs and the system 'hangs' if I use 'stand by' or 'hibernate'

Any suggestion on a fix would be most welcome!

Hi

In the mobo BIOS settings, have you disabled wake on lan, xxx devices, etc
If not yet, disable them

Yes I have already checked that 'wake on lan' is disabled. That was suggested by Pinnacle Tech Support as the possible cure but when I checked the BIOS it was already disabled. Many thanks for the suggestion though, but I need to find something else.
