firewire problem after Windows upgrade

Posted: 11-17-2003, 01:52 PM
I've recently upgraded from XP-home to XP-pro, and wound
up doing a "full install," so I lost data and
applications. Now that the OS is loaded and stable, I'm
getting a weird problem with IEEE1394 devices that I
didn't have before the upgrade:

1. Before the upgrade, I plugged several IEEE1394 devices
into a hub, and plugged the hub into one of the PC's
firewire ports; all devices appeared in "My Computer"
and "Device Manager." Now, XP doesn't see the devices if
I go through the hub, but it does see them if I plug only
one of them in to the PC and then daisy-chain the rest.
Why?

2. One IEEE1394 device, however, is still unseen by
Windows: a JVC HR-DVS2U mini-DV deck. Regardless of
whether I plug it directly into the PC's firewire port,
or daisy-chain it with the other IEEE1394 devices, it
doesn't appear on "My Computer" or "Device Manager." I
use the deck to capture video on Adobe Premiere, so it's
essential I get this working again. Why does Windows not
see this one IEEE1394 device?

I've checked the firewire cables, and they're all good.

I take it the hub is powered?

And whats the power supply in your
case? How many watts? Have all
updates for XP been installed?

What does it show in Device Manager?

Any errors? X's? !'s? Anything without
a name? Also, is the firewire built in (on the
motherboard), or is it a PCI card?

If its a PCI card, have you installed the drivers
that came with it? from the CD? Also, in the
BIOS, is Plug and Play Enabled?
