Firewire vs USB

Posted: 12-27-2003, 02:38 PM
I'm confused. My Sony DCR-TRV19 camcorder has a USB and Firewire ports for
transferring data. Why can I not use the USB port for transferring digital
video (DV)? From what I understand, I'm limited to using Firewire for doing
a DV transfer to my computer.

Considering that USB 2.0 is theoretically faster than Firewire, I don't
understand why I cannot use USB as the transfer medium for DV.

TIA

It's that way on most DV cameras. Maybe Firewire makes it easier to
implement camera controls (MM2 can rewind, fast forward and otherwise
control your camera very precisely through the firewire connection).

It is very likely that the USB port on the camera is the slower USB 1.1. I
have a TRV-38 and the USB port on it is ver 1.1 (verified by Sony by
e-mail). The USB port on these is good for use of the camera as a web-cam,
nothing else. These would then be analog capture off a video source..
