Fixing root problem generating these event messages

Regarding the following event message generated to
the "application" tab:

This message is written into the log every two minutes.
It is accompanied with the following message, also in
the "application" tab:

application is in an unstable state or is not functioning
correctly. Assertion Failure: SUCCEEDED(hr)

How do I fix the root cause of the problem? This constant
message reporting is afffecting the performance of my
computer.
