Flight Simulator X w/ Vista Home Premium=BSOD

Posted: 04-09-2007, 04:08 AM
Have most issues worked out after Dell sent Vista upgrade disks. The one
that I can't overcome is the instant crash as soon as my CD/DVD drive starts
to read the Flight Simulator X Disk 1. The game is not installed, it can't
even get that far before BSOD (problem signature below). Dell tech support
can't figure this out, any insight from anyone in here? I have loaded other
older games using the drive to make sure it's not the device, they've
installed. I'm thinking it's Vista related because the game will start to
load if I use my laptop which is XP.

My system:
Dell Dimension E520 (three months old)
Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz 2.13GHz
2GB RAM
320GB Hard Drive
Video Card Radeon X1300 Pro - driver version 8.351.3.1000 downloaded April 3rd
DVD ROM drive
DVD RW drive

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 8064DE65
BCP3: 9AC9B820
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini040807-01.dmp

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?

Dude...you got a dell! J/K....

Does this computer exhibit this BSOD with any other game cd/dvd? Have you
tried exploring the dvd to see if it is even reading properly, or are you
just letting the auto setup method start?

Are either of the CD or DVD players SATA?

dude I know,
Don't know what to regret more, getting the Dell or upgrading to Vista
without researching.

Anyway, I've only put in two older games and they work OK. I've just thrown
FSX disc 1 in and auto start-up initiates and everything goes BSOD. How do I
just explore without letting it auto start? (lame question but I'm no whiz)

They could be, (I just tried to check using the device manager) when I've had
to hit the F2 set up key to restore the drivers I thought I saw SATA. What's
the significance ?

I have nothing but SATA drive, including my DVD drive, and FSX installs and
works wonderfully.
