Floppy drive dose not function

encountering the following problem.
When ever i put a floppy disk in my floppy drive to put a
file on it or format it, it gives me the following
message "The disk is write protected".Even when the disk
is not write protect,it gives me this message to all my
floppies.
These floppy disk have already been used on Windows ME
and there was no problems with them, it is only since i
installed Windows XP.
