Folder attributes: Read-Only

Posted: 09-17-2003, 08:31 PM
I've been searching and searching...
Someone, please help!!!

At my workplace, we're trying to configure an XP Pro
system with some custom software. This software is
very 'finnicky' (sp) about folder's/sub-folder's
properties, specifically the Read-Only attribute.

When going to the properties of the folder, the Read-Only
folder is checked, but greyed (as if portions of the
folder contents are read-only). We click to un-check the
attribute, then click Apply, then close the properties
window. When the properties window is re-opened, the Read-
Only attribute is checked and greyed out again. Same
result if we check it to make it fully Read-Only.

Bottom line is this: how to you make this (or any) folder
completely NON Read-Only in XP Pro??

Extra Info: The software is installed from a user account
with admin rights, then changed to power-user rights (but
the issue exists in the admin login also). The system is
stand-alone (not networked), and has XP SP1.

Thanks to anyone who can explain this.
Steve

You cannot change the folder attributes in XP only the attributes of the
files within the folder. If this is an issue for the application you need
to check to see if it is Windows XP compatible and/or if there are any
updates or new versions of that application that might resolve this issue.
