Folders converted to files

After a power failure, on restart the routine disk check
ran, and found a raft of unrecoverable errors in folders,
all of which it converted to files.

Is there any way to retrieve the data from these erstwhile
folders? The holy grail would be to be able to convert
them back to folders with the files they once contained,
but just extracting the original files would be quite
acceptible!
