Use tip 1984 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com to reset the
administrator password.

Log on as Administrator and reset your password at a CMD prompt:
net user YourUserName newpassword

If you have XP Pro on your computer, at the log in screen type
ctrl-alt-delete
twice. In the user account type administrator, leave the password blank and
press enter. You likely didn't create a password for this hidden account
during setup and if the computer was purchased with XP pre-installed it
doesn't likely have one either,

If you have Home, boot into Safe Mode (F8 after the post test and before
Windows starts. Once Windows starts loading, you've missed it and will have
to try again). You'll have an option to log on as Administrator. Again,
the same procedure, you'll be asked to log in to get into safe mode, type
administrator, leave the password blank and press enter.

This will get you in. Then go to Control Panel, user accounts, select the
specific user and select change password. Once you've changed the password
it would be advisable to create a Password Reset Disk by clicking "Prevent a
Forgotten Password" link in the left pane.

The paragraph above, explaining how to change passwords is the same
procedure you would follow to create new passwords for users on a clean
install. Once XP setup is complete, just go to User Accounts in Control
Panel and follow the above instrcutions.

Default forgot password

I moved and have not used my computer for a couple of
months. I cannot remember my login password and did not
make a password reset disk. Any help on how to get around
this w/o reinstalling windows. Which I cannot do since I
cannot get past the password part.

Default Forgot Password

We recently bought a new computer from Dell with Windows
XP on it. This was a few months ago. The computer has
since crashed and we have sent it away to be repaired.

Now I am trying to boot up my old computer that we had
Windows XP on, but I can't remember the password I had set
for my account. There's no way to get into my computer?

I tried calling customer service but they just told me to
go to microsoft.com and then use this 6-digit number in a
troubleshooter somewhere that I cannot find.

Please help,
Andrew T.

Default Re: Forgot Password

Thanks Jupiter,

I'm at the public library now to use this computer. I'll
try out the tips on that site when I get home. If it
works, I'll reply. If not, boo hoo for me - I guess I'll
be computerless until Dell gets my PC back.

Thanks again,
Andrew T.
