Format change in Exe files

Posted: 08-01-2003, 05:39 PM
I have a Sony VAIO with Windows XP Home edition. I
changed the format of an exe file accidentally into a zip
file. Consequently all the exe files in the
C:\Windows\Preftech folder got changed into zip files and
ever since whenever I open any programme like search,
control panel, media player etc. it doesnot open saying
that the system is not able to read the file.
Is it possible to repair the files and get them back to
their original format which is generally unknown.
I upgraded from Windows 2000 and therefore have Windows
XP upgrade CD and not the full version.
I shall be grateful for help.
