format disk to install VISTA 5728

Posted: 09-24-2006, 05:29 PM
Now I have got VISTA RC1 5600. I would like to install VISTA 5728 but on
"old" new partition. One word I would like to format partition with VISTA RC1
and after that install VISTA 5728. I have got a few questions:
1. Can I do it? (When I have got XP it was simple)
2. How to format partition with VISTA RC1?

You can, but be very careful about where Vista RC1 put the boot files. If
they are on that partition, and you format it, you will lose the ability to
boot to Vista RC1.

The rule of thumb always applies to install the oldest operating system
first in a multiboot system. Without knowing how your system is set up, I
am not sure what steps you need to take. Do you have only Vista 5600
installed and no other operating system? When you installed 5600 how did
you install it? (Upgrade or custom installation) To what partition? What
was there before?

First I have got XP HE Polish. I could not upgrade it (diffent languages) so
I had installed VISTA Beta 2 on the same partition. Windows created
"window.old" and installing was correct. After that I upgraded Vista Beta 2
to VISTA RC1 5600 and it is only one system in my computer. I have got 2 hard
discs. One disk is divided into two partitions. There is VISTA RC1 on
partition "C". And now I would like to format this partitions and install
Vista 5728. Am I right or not?. Or I ought to choose "upgrade". Do not be
angry with me but I am a lawyer not expert in computers.

There is no need to format the existing Vista partition just do a 'Clean
install'. It will be much faster than an 'upgrade'. The old files, including
user files will be in 'windows.old'. Colin
