fresh install

trying to install XP professional on a rebuilt computer
and I get an error
"
the following value in the .SIF used by setup is
corrupted or missing!

value 0 on the line in section [winntdirectories] with
key "."

setup cannot continue. to quit setup, press f3.
"

setup will not proceed any farther than this, need help.

How are you doing the installation? As an unattend?

I've tried with a new NTFS 80GB hard drive starting out
from the oem CD when it gets partway through setup I get
those error messages.

It could be the OEM media that you are using then, try retail media and you
should be fine.
