FritzBox 7270 and mass storage

Posted: 03-08-2008, 09:26 PM

External hard drive connected through USB to my DSL router FritzBox 7270.
Access enabled via FTP and SAMBA server.
No password protection to this mass storage.

However, a WLAN laptop running Vista Business can't see this drive
if attempting it via network drive sharing.

No problems from central PC, win XP pro sp2, connected via LAN to DSL router.

Scenarios:
a) Start->Run-> "\\fritz.box"
Vista replies with
"network path was not found"
b) windows explorer->address bar->"\\fritz.box"
"Windows cannot find \\fritz.box. Check the spelling and try again
or try searching for the item by clicking the start button and then
clicking Search".

All requirements of FritzBox checked (win xp has no problems).
What settings do I have to check on vista to get this working ?

No help after having the firewall disabled.

Firewall, while enabled, doesn't report any blocked traffic.

On the router I have switched off the password protection for this disk.
But Vista still asks for password while attempting to connect with it via FTP.

I have checked all settings under "Network and Sharing".
All except for "sharing media files" (last topic) enabled. No help.
However, some topics here are always grayed-out, e.g.:
network discovery. I can't disable/enable those, cause they are always
greyed out.
Regardless what changes in other network configurations I do.
