Posted: 02-05-2004, 11:46 AM
I have a usb hub which works fine on my laptop, but when i plug it in to my desktop in doesnt recognise it, i have tried replacing the usbhub.sys but to no avail, i have also tried the windows patch "Windows XP Patch: USB Devices May Not Work After You Unplug a Downstream USB Hub from the Host Controller" but it still does not work. Has anybody got any ideas?

Do the USB ports on the desktop work otherwise? Are you
trying to plug it into a front panel ports and does that
port work with other USB devices? [Is the port connected?]

What does the device manager show for USB port status?

All other usb ports work fine with other usb devices, the device mananger lists all other devices ok. When i plug in the usb hub, windows opens up a Install new hardware window, this is strange as it does not do this on the laptop, it just accepts it as a generic usb hub. What is odd though, that in the device manager i show 4 root hub devices and 3 Via Rev 5 or later USB universal host controllers, i presume these are for the front usb connectors, but i only have 2 connectors not 3, i also have a Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller and a USB mass storage Device. I have plugged in to the usb ports, 1 printer, 1 usb CD/RW drive and a optical mouse. Any ideas why i have so many devices under the USB
