Hello

Well you also have to take into consideration that their are no
gaurantee's that by using that adpater will it work, because your
trying to make a pararell port act as a serial port. So your pretty
to some degree if it will work or not but try doing a search on
google and see if anyone lese has come across a similar issue.

Get a USB hub (powered) and USB to serial DB-9 cable.

Getting a Serial Port from a Parallel Port
Posted: 09-09-2003, 08:03 PM
I rebooted the laptop, and checked my BIOS. However, I
can' see any setting relating to my parallel port in the
BIOS. When I check my device manager, I can see the port
(ECP Printer Port LPT1) working.

Anything else I can try??? Anyone???

Thanks a lot for the suggestion...

I would agree with Jim; I don't know of a way to make a parallel port
"look" like a serial port. The adapter you are looking at will turn a 25
pin serial port into a 9 pin serial port.

That connector isn't meant to convert from parallel to serial, it just
changes the pin connections. There are converters available, but there's no
guarantee they'd work with your device. The converters are a bit hard to
find; last time I looked they were about $25.

You might be better off getting a usb to serial converter. You'd have a
better chance that it would work.

You can find USB to serial DB-9 from www.cyberguys.com

USB is the way to go because it is Universal SERIAL Bus so
conversion to a different bus is not a problem. The printer
port is a parallel port and considerably more conversion is
required to make your connection reliable.
