Default Group By Type - The [username] Folder

for some reason, the group by [type] option does not work for me in the
Personal Folder, the folder that has your username, and contains folders
like: Music, Pictures, Favorites etc. does anyone know how to fix this? this
is a very nice feature, as it organizes all the files in the folder under
groups.

I had to add 'type' via the choose details option, I assume you did the
same. While 'Group by Type' doesn't seem to work from the menu bar (I'd
call that a bug), it does work if you click the drop arrow that appears when
you hover the mouse over the 'Type' header in the explorer window and
select 'Group'.

First of all, 'Group by' is not an option for a window displayed in List
view, hope that's not the problem. In an Vista explorer window, there is a
bar across the top of the right-hand pane which lists the details chosen for
that folder -- like the column headers in Details view, but they show in
all views. There will be an up or down arrowhead at the end of the column
name that the folder is currently sorted on. Clicking on one of these sorts
the folder on that attribute. Also, when you mouse-over one of these detail
names, a drop button appears to the right. Click on the drop button, and
you're presented with options to Sort, Group, or Stack the folder.
