If simple file sharing is in use, the Guest account must be enabled. If using non-simple file sharing, we would normally disable the guest account, and grant share permissions to named users / groups. Note that the control panel user account applet _appears_ to let you disable the guest account, but it doesn't. All that does is 'deny local logon' to the Guest account. ( in otherwords, you can't sit down at the machine and log on as Guest. ) The Guest account is still actually enabled, and needs to remain so for Simple File Sharing to work. To _actually_ disable the guest account, you need to go to: Start | Run | lusrmgr.msc Look in Users folder, Dbl-click Guest, Check 'Account is Disabled'. Only do this of you are not using simple file sharing, and have set up share permissions. | Hi I have currently networked 4 PC's in my house, and I can 4 of them in MY network places, i can connect to one of them fine, and veiw her shared documents and also access her through workgroup computers. But when i click the other persons compuyer it brings up a windows log in box, that says her name, and then guest and is asking me for a password. She says that she doesnt know about a password, although she didnt put the machine together, and i thought the guest account comes without a password. Also the other persons PC wont let me access their PC at all, it tells me that Im not allowed. Can anybody throw some ideas at my problems please Thanks | Guest

| I have exactly the same problem starting about 2 weeks ago on my main network PC. I have checked everything I know, which is quite a lot (clearly not enough). I wonder if there is a M$ update with a bug? Quote:

have you read the previous 4 messages in this thread? Can you read this message? I am asking because there appears to be a widespread problem in this newsgroup. People write, but do not read. Please reply first to establish a functioning discussion. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. | Guest
