Had virus. now hangs on boot

Hello thanks in advance for any help! When starting my
computer the normal process takes place and I log in but
hangs when the blue XP logo page displays. It just sits
with no response. Any ideas Im in a real bind.

P.S. I recently applied the patch update for XP for the
blaster virus.
