I know that the PC Halo community is trying to make sure it will:

Windows Vista will be a brand new version of Windows, and so won't be free.

At the moment OEM versions of Windows are around the £100 mark. But these
require you to re-format your drive and start from scratch - they also have
to be sold with a piece of hardware, but most places will define a piece of
hardware as a mouse or floppy drive so they don't add much more to the
price, but OEM versions once installed are tired forever to that one machine
they're installed on.

Retail versions are more expensive, but come with support from Microsoft,
can be used to upgrade previous Windows versions (although if this will be
true with Vista is currently unknown), but they can be transfered to a newer
machine if you upgrade (assuming it's been removed from the old machine
first).

But of course with Vista any of that could change and we won't know for sure
until closer to launch day. You can find out more about Windows Vista at

Hi, not sure if the reports that you'll need Vista to run Halo2 are just
speculation, wait and see...

It's not speculation.

Just buy an XBOX.

You shouldn't waste your time with a Microsoft OS before at least
Service Pack 1 comes out. So at the least that will be mid 2007.

Windows Vista rocks now, by launch day it's going to rule. Things have
changed since Windows 95 and 98.

Not really true any more. Perhaps back in the Windows 9x series, but lately
things have really been solid from the beginning in most cases. I remember
back in the earlier OS beta tests where the builds would darn near destroy
your hard drive when something went wrong. Not any more. Aero is awesome,
and the stepped-up security is really doing its job.
