Re: Hard Drive cannot Boot - Hard Drive Password Prevents Win XP Access.

I've done everything!! For some unknow reason my laptop
will not accept my hard drive password and keeps my
system from re-booting to the hard drive. I cannot
access any EXE files and I did try and recover Win XP
using DOS and reinstalling. Although, I can access a
setup menu using the F2 Key I cannot change my password
for it states my system has no Service Tag.

-- Perhaps the files are currently on my computer for
when I do try and reinstall there is no room!!!
Memory...Can anyone assist me..

Thank you!
Debra

On desktops you can open the case and short out the CMOS to reset the
settings to default (or remove the battery). I don't have a laptop so I'm
asking; can this be done? Resetting the CMOS should remove the password
requirement.

Jesus christ, I wish people would try and mention to take *caution* when
resetting the CMOS, it isn't always a straight forward procedure and can
cause other things to happen. Try taking the batter out for 30 minutes then
putting it back in, don't go straight for shorting it out, and *only* do
this if you are competent with opening your laptop!!!

Nick.
