Hard Drive Detection

Posted: 01-10-2009, 03:02 PM

I built a system Intel DX58SO mobo with I7 920 processor and a singl
western digital sata hard drive in port 0. Installed vista home premiu
64 and everything works fine but........ at start up in the post scree
(the one that is all black with white fonts) the message "no hard dis
detected" comes up, and then the system loads fine and works well. I
there a fix for this? Do I need to be concerned about this? I've looke
everywhere and this issue seems to be unique. What will happen when
install a second hard drive

It appears that your system is trying to boot from a port other then SATA
port 0 and when it can't find one it apparently finds your drive on port 0.
Check your BIOS settings to be sure the system is set to boot from correct
drive/port.

I know that. Please read my previous post more closely as I stated that your
BIOS boot priority order probably starts with other then port 0 and you need
to check it.

I suspected that would be the case. Is the disk drive you have connected to
SATA 0 indicated as the first priority to boot from?

I suppose you loaded the 64 bit chipset drivers.. Are you trying to run
any type of RAID or might the computer think you are? Check your
connectors to the drive, they can be a little fragile.

And as was mentioned, scan the BIOS for anything that might relate to
your situation. Check the BIOS updates to see if anything like your
problem is mentioned.

I just rebooted my new system (DX48BT2) and it shows the same thing.
Since it is on the Raid Configuration utility page, I would think it is
associated with that. If you like, I believe you hit CTRL-I or
something like that to enter that utility. It is in your owner's manual.

"Upon re-boot, you will see the following Intel Matrix Storage Manager
option ROM status message on the screen: Press <Ctrl-I> to enter the
RAID Configuration Utility. Press <Ctrl-I> and enter the RAID
Configuration Utility."
