Sounds to me like your hard drive just went south and has went to hard drive
heaven.

I purchased a maxtor hard drive and a io gear 2 port 2.0
usb card for my hp with windows xp on it. When I plug the
card in it is no problem but when I plug in the hard
drive it freezes the comp. I have looked for new drivers
but no luck. Please help.

The drive has jumpers that must be set properly, my guess is
that you have set both hard drives as masters on the same
ribbon cable (IDE channel) and that is your issue.

Re-read the Maxtor install instructions and check the jumper
settings, your original boot drive should be master and the
new drive should be slave. (At least for the initial setup,
until you setup the desired boot disk using whatever method
you choose. You can mirror the original drive or do a clean
install of your operating system and applications, then just
copy your old files. Or you might keep both drives)

To ensure that there is no data loss, I prefer using a
third party application like Partition Magic.
