The problem is Windows XP does not have the correct drivers
installed when you place the hard drive in your other computer.
The only way to correct this is to perform a "repair install". Then
you'll have to repeat the process when going back to the original
computer.

If all you want to do is read the files, you might try to see about getting the
free NTFS reader for DOS program at this site:
http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm
It mentions that you can also use this in Win98 to gain access to the NTFS
partitions.

PCWorld mentioned it in their Answer Line column this month.

Because the hard driver with xp has been activated with your system and will
fail with your fathers unless it is a nearly exact duplicate.
