Hardware Accelaration Disabled

Since upgrading to vista, I am being told that my 'Hardware Accelaration has
been disabled'. I have Direct X installed - how can I re-enable it?

Vista requires that DirectX9 be supported by hardware/firmware on your
graphics card so it is not something you install separatly.
When do you get the message that hardware accelaration has been diabled?

I noticed the problem as soon as I upgraded to Vista - on XP I had no
problems at all. The strange thing is it seems to be periodic - ok at times
then losing graphics at others. I'm wondering if I need to purcahse a
seperate graphics card?

Conman,

To work, Hardware Acceleration depends on several factors. One of them is
that the motherboard chipset drivers must be compatible with Vista. Vista
may include chipset drivers for some chipsets, but not all. Chipset drivers
can be downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Each
motherboard has its own unique drivers. If you have a VIA based motherboard,
those drivers would be the 4-in-one drivers. Be sure to use the correct
chipset drivers for your motherboard. It does no harm to reinstall those
drivers, even if you already have the correct ones. I think Vista installs
Direct X 10, which is backwards compatible with prior versions of DX video
cards, so you should be OK there.

Let us know what happens,

O bought the computer in January and it was advertised as Vista Compatible -
plus also ran the drivers disk that I got with the upgrade.

To be honest, I'm not sure if it is a VIA motherboard - how can I check?

I think maybe he is asking about hardware sound. I have that problem and
would love to know how to get that back without installing Windows XP. The
new system is CPU dependent(60%CPU on a e6600) with emulated sound staging
and it still doesn't even come close to sound in XP as Drivers seem to be
working worst for me with every new release. I had to remove me creative
sound card as with current drivers I can't even boot into Vista after a
lockup. I am now on the realtek high definition for Vista and the drivers
work stable but the sound is sub par. Again not having hardware sound is a
huge issue.

Is there a way to get XP sound in Vista? Is there a way to add hardware
sound?

Abram730,

See whether this site provides some answers:

It seems that Vista has removed some hardware sound capability. You can
google for additional information about this situation,
