Headphone jack stereo????

Can someone tell me how to know if my Toshiba Satalitte
1135-S1553 has STEREO capabilities? I hooked
up "powered" stero speakes and sound would only come out
of one side. The User's Guide says "you may connect
stereo headdphones to headsphone jack". I have no way of
testing the speaker system.

I am a newbie and wouldn't know how to find my way back
to this site so I would appreciate a reply to my screen
name as well as a reply here for others. Thank you
