Headphones

My parents bought this computer and it has this great
sound system, however they don't always want to hear what
I'm listening to so they also bought headphones-here is
the problem-the headphones aren't being detected as an
audio device so I can't listen through the headphones
ONLY the speakers. I have checked my connections and
everything is A-okay on that side of things. Can someone
help?

Hello,

Not to sound stupid.......but plug the headphones into
the speakers, not the audio output. Most audio outputs
don't have amps. The amp is in the speakers. Headphones
require an amp. Every set of speakers I've owned, had a
place to plug in headphones. Once the headphones are
plugged into the speakers. Your parents will have peace
and quite.

Many CD-R players have phone jacks. Otherwise, the speaker outputs of the
sound card should suffice. Radio Shack has adapters that can accommodate
these uses.

Something to test...
Open the sound controls with a double-click on the speaker icon at the
right-bottom of the window. In the play control column, click ADVANCED,
then check or UNcheck the "use digital audio" box. This with a
SoundBlaster card; yours may be different.

If you are trying to get sound from the CD drive jack, you can only use it
if your sound card is configured to deliver "analog" sound and not
"digital". Also, the CD drive analog audio cable needs to be connect to the
sound card. Digital signals use the motherboard to send the signals to the
sound card.
