HELP! Group Policy problems on a Win XP SP3 Machine

Posted: 12-25-2008, 10:25 PM
Hi all...

I'm trying to figure out why a "folder redirect" domain group policy is not
working correctly on a new XP Pro w/ Service Pack 3 that was recently added
to the domain. The wierd thing is that the My Documents and My Pictures
Folder Redirects works fine... no problem there. However, the Desktop and
Application Data redirects do not work (all four work on other XP Pro
workstations). Domain is running on a w2k adv server. Any ideas?

Here is some info I've gathered...

1.. I have defined several User Configuration > Windows Settings > Folder
Redirection settings in the "ReDirect User Data" group policy. Specifically,
here is what I did.

1.. My Documents - basic setting - all users get redirected to the same
target ( \\s1\HomeDir\%username%\MyDocuments)
2.. My Pictures - "Follow the My Documents Folder"
3.. Desktop - basic setting - all users get redirected to the same
target (\\s1\HomeDir\%username%\Desktop)
4.. Application Data - basic setting - all users get redirected to the
same target (\\s1\HomeDir\%username%\ApplicationData)

2.. Log on to new computer w/ domain user account. at this time, domain
user has no profile on computer. After initial log-on, folder locations are
as follows:
1.. My Documents - \\s1\HomeDir\rms\MyDocuments
2.. My Pictures - \\s1\HomeDir\rms\MyDocuments\My Pictures
3.. Desktop - C:\Documents and Settings\rms\Desktop
4.. Application Data - C:\Documents and Settings\rms\Application Data

3.. 2c and 2d are incorrect. why are some of the "ReDirect User Data"
Group Policy enforced? Here is the results from "gpresult.exe" command line
tool:
