Default Help with a Linux/Internet Issue

Im running Ubuntu 7.14 and having trouble connecting to the internet and my ISP is Verizon. but my friend installed Ubuntu 7.14 and configured his internet and it worked and his ISP is Comcast. so i used the exact method he used to get his internet up and it still doesnt work for me.
