Help with firewall

I have Vista home basic. The security center says that I have MacAfee
Personal Firewall installed, so I guess it came with the PC. I cannot get rid
of it!!! It doesn't show up under Add/Remove programs. I downloaded and ran
the MacAfee removal tool, and it's still there. How can I get rid of it?

If you have removed McAfee with its Removal Tool; and your Securit
center still shows as it being installed, it probably means that it ha
left some remnants in your registry. Try a freeware registry cleanle
like CCleaner and see if it helps, Else : Open regedit, search fo
McAfee keys and delete them. Pls create a system restore point befor
touching the registry

As Anand said, there are registry entries causing it to still show up i
Security Center. If I were you I would get into the habit of deletin
left over registry entries by searching keywords with 'RegSeeker
(http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2579.html)

Simply search "McAfee" within RegSeeker and every registry entry stil
left over will be displayed for you to delete. A backup will be create
automatically before you delete anything. Or you could do it Anand'
way and use the "Find" feature in regedit

Try again!

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the
McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...e&type=TS&ia=1

IMPORTANT: If your McAfee products were preinstalled by the manufacturer of
your computer, please make sure to activate your McAfee subscription before
uninstalling. Reinstalling from a CD or download will only install your
McAfee consumer applications, but may not recover your paid subscription
term information.

No luck?

The advice from both you and "HappyAndyK" to use a registry cleaner is bad
advice. This is why:

http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 - registry cleaner thread

If the OP has really used the McAfee removal tool and the Security Center is
still showing bits of McAfee installed, here is how to fix it - easily,
with no third-party tools such as registry cleaners that can irrevocably
harm the system.

Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Type the following
command:

winmgmt /salvagerepository

The first time you run this it will fail. It will issue stop commands to
the services causing it to fail. It might take a couple minutes for the
services to shut down. Run the command again and reboot your system.

If the above doesn't work or if you get "the repository is consistent", do
the following from an elevated cmd prompt:

net stop winmgmt [enter]
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem [enter]
ren repository repository.old [enter]
net start winmgmt [enter]

This is why I am always hesitant to participate in support forums
because every time I offer advice it is immediately labeled as wrong by
an ignorant post. I NEVER said to use a Registry Cleaner, read my advice
again and again until you can correctly interpret what I said before you
accuse me of giving bad advice. I agree that using registry cleaners is
both dangerous and unnecessary in most cases but HappyAndyK did not give
bad advice by recommending CCleaner's registry cleaner as it just may
remove the entry causing the annoyance. CCleaner offers you to backup
before removing any registry entries and on top of that it is by no
means an aggressive registry cleaner.

If that doesn't work the solution is to find the registry entry that is
causing the annoyance manually and remove it. You can use regedit or you
can use a program such as RegSeeker to find all entries related to
McAfee by using the "Search" feature.

if any body has further problems with installing mcafee and the 33733
error, go to 'Error 337332 - McAfee Support Forums
