hibername resume problem

after successfully performing hibernation on my machine, upon resume the
machine performs shutdown.
this is very strange: the machine goes back from hibernate, all windows
coming back and then a dialog of shuting down appears.
there is probably some program that thinks that performing hibernate is
actually a shutdown and upon resume from hibernate ( the OS have priority to
performing the hibernate) it continues performing shutdown.
what kind of software would behave like that or is this the OS?
is there some BIOS configuartion?

this thing happens when I press the power button on my box ( configured in
display->power properties to perform hibernate)
and also if the hibernate is done from within the OS - start->shut
down->hibernate.

on other machine I don't have this problem, what can be the cause of that?
